HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team fell to the 22nd ranked Campbell Camels 3-1 in the final game of the HBU Invitational at Aveva Stadium Saturday night.
Campbell (2-0-0) was attacking the Husky (0-1-1) defense from the opening kick, getting off five shot attempts in the first 20 minutes. Their first goal on the evening came in the 22nd minute when Daniel Hernandez scored on a ball sent into the box by Tyler Young.
It took just 10-minutes for the Huskies to answer.
D'Alessandro Herrera scored his first collegiate goal and tied the game at one in stunning fashion. After the HBU defense was able to stop a Camel's attack, Herrera found himself with the ball near midfield. Herrera noticed the Campbell goal keeper playing an incredibly high line and sent a shot from the HBU defensive half of the field over the retreating keepers head and into the back of the net.
Unfortunately for HBU, it took just five minutes for the Camels to regain the lead. The Huskies came out strong defensively in the second half, but the Camels were able to get an insurance goal in the 50th minute.
Campbell led the Huskies in shots and shots on goal, 17(6) - 7(1) and corner kicks, 9-2. HBU's goalkeeper
Alex Aitken had three saves on the night for the Huskies.
HBU heads to San Diego at the end of the week for the first game of a four game road trip beginning Friday against San Diego at 9pm C.T. on ESPN+.
