MSOC: Huskies Open the 2022 Season With a Draw vs. Furman

The Huskies play again Saturday at 7:30 pm vs. No. 22 Campbell

Box Score HOUSTON, Texas - HBU opened their 2022 season today at the HBU invitational against Furman with the game resulting in a 1-1 tie at AVEVA Stadium.

The Huskies (0-0-1) managed just two shots in the opening period with Kaone Kolagano and Jorge Mandujano credited with the attempts. Kolagano had the best opportunity with a leaping header in the 14th minute that the Furman (0-0-1) keeper was just able to get a hand on to deflect it over the goal.

The Paladins played were the aggressors during the first half, totaling nine shots. Furman put three shots on goal in the first half but the Huskies' defense, and goalkeeper Alex Aitken, were able to keep the game even at 0-0 with Aitken making three saves.

HBU found itself short-handed after a 49th minute red card to Elijah Le but the Huskies held strong despite the Furman advantage and the Paladins' Jake Raine putting a shot off the crossbar. The lineups were evened out at 10 per side at the 69:12 mark after a red card to Furman's Dylan Lane. The Huskies found the net in the 85th minute when D'Alessandro Herrera lofted a beautiful pass to find Farkarlun in a mad dash heading towards the goal. Farkarlun made one move to his left to get space from a defender and fired to the left side of the net past the keeper. Furman answered back quickly, scoring within three minutes, tying the game 1-1 after a free kick into the box went off the head of Furman's Slade Starnes, off an HBU defender and into goal.

For the match, the Huskies trailed the Paladins in total shots, 17-7. Huskies goalkeeper Alex Aitken had five saves on the night. Farkarlun, Kolagano and Herrera each had two shot attempts.

The Huskies play this Saturday in AVEVA Stadium to wrap up the tournament against No. 22 Campbell at 7:30 p.m. before hitting the road for their next four games of the season.
