Hammond, La – HBU softball was eliminated by the Southeastern Lady Lions in the semifinals of the Southland Tournament late Thursday night at North Oak Park.
The Huskies and Lady Lions were tied at zero with two outs in the top of the second inning when a lightning delay of an hour and a half ensued. The Lions bats were awoken after the delay, putting up a four spot in the bottom of the second. A two RBI double followed by a two-run home run from Aeriyl Mass gave Southeastern a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Lions put up a three spot in the bottom of the fourth after an error, a walk, and a pair of RBI base knocks.
HBU responded with a run in the top of the fifth on a
Sarah Venker RBI double to left center field. Unfortunately, it would be the only run they scored in the inning and stranded the bases loaded.
The Lions walked off the game with a two run homer in the bottom of the fifth.
Lyndie Swanson took the loss on the game, allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out one over her 3.2 innings of work.
Madison Cotton came in relief of Swanson and gave up two runs on two hits in her 0.2 innings of work.
The Huskies reached the semifinals and won the most games in the Southland Tournament in program history this season.
