SB: Huskies Drop Final Game of Tournament to Brown

Echols continues to be on fire at the plate

HOUSTON – A long ball in the top of the sixth inning pushed the Brown Bears past the HBU Huskies Sunday afternoon at Husky Field.

Lyndie Swanson (4-1) got the start in the circle for the Huskies (9-8). She threw three shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out two. Sarah Venker (1-2) came in relief and was given the loss on the afternoon. She threw four innings, giving up five hits, three runs, and struck out two.

The Huskies got the scoring started in the fourth inning when Baylee Chandler walked with one out and the bases loaded to drive in Jasie Roberts. Unfortunately for HBU, Alexis Guevara was able to work around the crowded bases and got the next two Huskies to fly out.

One swing of the bat changed the whole game in the sixth inning when Lauren Moody hit a two out, three run homer over the left center field fence. Strong Bears' pitching would limit HBU offensively over the final two innings. Lauren Innerst picked up her second win of the season after she came in relief of Guevara.

For HBU, Shelby Echols continued to be one of the hottest hitters in division I softball by continuing her hit streak to open up the season. She has gotten a hit in all 17 of the Huskies games so far. Her 2-4 performance on the day actually lowered her batting average to .538 on the season.

Haylie Savage, Riley Martin, Chandler, and Roberts all picked up hitsfor HBU in this one.

The Huskies have the week off before beading to Nashville, Tennessee to take part in the Lipscomb tournament. They will play against the likes of Pitt, Lipscomb, and Bowling Green as play begins Friday.
