MBB: Final Road Trip Takes HBU to the Big Easy

NEW ORLEANS, La. – HBU men's basketball has one final road trip before closing out the regular season at home with the Huskies visiting the New Orleans Privateers at Lakefront Arena on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Garrett Jones will provide audio play-by-play on the Husky Sports Network available at HBUHuskies.com.
 
HBU (9-16, 5-7 SLC) split a pair of home games last week, first defeating UIW, 82-68, and then falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 70-75. The Huskies got out to slow starts in both games and trailed at the half before out-scoring their opponents 91-77 in the second half. Khristion Courseault averaged 17.5 points per game for the week, leading HBU in scoring.
 
The Huskies continue to force turnovers at a higher clip than any team in the league in conference play, averaging 9.50 steals per game with opponents averaging 16.2 turnovers per game. Senior Darius Lee is fifth in the nation, averaging 2.43 steals per game. In conference play, he is accumulating 3.3 steals per game.
 
New Orleans (16-11, 9-3 SLC) comes into Wednesday's game having dropped its last two games, falling to Southeastern, 84-79, and Northwestern State, 87-77. At NSU, the Privateers shot 46.9 percent from the floor but were unable to overcome 18 turnovers and shooting 63.6 percent from the foul line.
 
The Privateers feature the leading scorer in conference play in Derek St. Hilaire who is averaging 22.9 points per game against SLC foes. Teammate Troy Green is fourth in the league, averaging 17.7 ppg. Green is also the team's top rebounder, averaging 5.8 boards per game. In conference play, the duo of St. Hilaire and Green have taken more than 50 percent of the team's field goal attempts and account for more than 50 percent of the team's scoring.
 
The Huskies and Privateers have met twice this season, first at the SLC Tip-Off Event and then in Sharp Gym. UNO won both meetings, both in January. In the last game at Sharp, St. Hilaire scored a career-high 34 points for the Privateers while Lee led the Huskies with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
 
HBU will be back in Sharp Gym this Saturday, Mar. 5, for Senior Night against the McNeese Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. The Southland Conference Tournament is then scheduled to start next Wednesday, Mar. 9, in Katy, Texas at the Merrell Center.
