SB: Janes' Dominating Performance Lifts Huskies Past Miss. Valley State

Huskies lose second game of the double header against Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, MS – Katy Janes delivered a dominating performance in the circle for the Huskies in game one of their double header against Miss. Valley State and Southern Miss Saturday morning at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

Game One

Janes threw a complete game shutout against Miss. Valley State early Saturday morning, leading the Huskies (3-4) to a 2-0 win. She totaled eight strikeouts and gave up only three hits while walking one over her seven innings.

Shelby Echols and Avery Drake led off the game with a pair of singles before each moved up a base on a passed ball. Caitlyn Brockway stepped to the dish with two in scoring position and one out following an Autumn Sydlik pop out. She sent a sacrifice fly into right field, scoring Echols and moving Drake over to third. Drake scampered home to score on a wild pitch before the inning ended and Janes took over from there.

Janes' win is her first on the season, improving her record to 1-1. This is the first complete game and the first shutout she has thrown in here collegiate career. Breana Herrera and Echols finished the game with two hits each, including Echols first double of the season.

Game Two

Three runs in the third inning proved to be too much for the Huskies to overcome. Sarah Venker started the game and was stuck with her first loss on the season. Over 2.2 innings pitched she game three runs on four hits while striking out two and walking one. Lyndie Swanson came in to throw 3.1 scoreless innings of relief work.

Echols, Sydlik, Jasie Roberts, Justice Palmer and Ab Garcia each finished the game with a hit.
