HOUSTON – After opening the season with a pair of road games the HCU men's basketball team will open the home portion of its schedule on Monday evening inside Sharp Gym against Champion Christian at 7:00 p.m. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
The Huskies (0-2) have been led by junior
Brycen Long who is averaging 15 points per game and shooting 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from behind the arc. Sophomores
Tristan Moore and
Deshon Proctor made their season debuts on Thursday against Texas with Moore scoring eight points on 3-of-7 shooting in 19 minutes, coupled with a pair of blocked shots, and Proctor tallying four points and five rebounds in eight minutes.
Champion Christian (1-1), a member of the NCCAA, opened the season by splitting a pair of games and has since played four consecutive games against NCAA Division I opponents. The Tigers fell to UT-Martin on Saturday, Nov. 12, by a score of 124-65. Champion Christian was led in scoring by junior Xavier Hall who scored 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting, 7-of-11 from three. The Tigers also played Southland Conference foe McNeese, falling 110-54, with Hall again leading the way with 18 points.
The Huskies and Tigers have met twice, with the meeting coming in each of the last two season and HCU taking both victories.

HCU will be taking part in the Owl Invitational beginning this Friday, Nov. 18, when the Huskies host Western Michigan in Sharp Gym at 7:00 p.m. The Huskies then turn around and host Georgia Southern the next night, Nov. 19, before closing out the three-game tournament against Rice in the
Darius Lee Memorial Classic on Monday, Nov. 21, at 7:00 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse.
