SAN ANTONIO, TX – HCU recorded their first loss in Southland Conference play against the UIW Cardinals in four sets at the Freeman Coliseum (20-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-27). Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.
The Huskies (13-6, 5-1 SLC) were led by freshman outside hitter
Shelby O'Neal who totaled 15 kills and seven digs. Junior outside hitter
Sara Arroyo added ten kills and senior middle blocker
Jada Allen had 10 kills with four blocks. Sophomore middle blocker
Audrey Pearce recorded eight kills, three blocks, and six digs. Redshirt freshman setter
Grace McLaughlin recorded a double-double with 43 assists and 14 digs, while junior libero
Kaley Feris anchored the HCU defense with 11 digs.
UIW (3-13, 2-4 SLC) were led by Kyla Malone who recorded 17 kills, three blocks, and nine digs. Taylor Stoops dished out 45 assists along with seven digs while Audrey Patton led the Cardinals defensively with 17 digs.
