HOUSTON - HCU returns for back-to-back home games, beginning with Nicholls in Southland Conference football Saturday at 6 p.m. at Husky Stadium. Houston Christian University (HCU), formerly Houston Baptist University (HBU), underwent a name change in September 2022.

Sophomore quarterback Justin Fomby has completed 94-of-156 passes (60.2 percent) for 987 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions for the Huskies (2-2, 1-0 SLC). Junior wide receiver Karl Reynolds has 24 catches for 367 yards and four touchdowns, tying the school record with three touchdowns in last week's win over Lamar. Junior wide receiver Vernon Harrell has nine catches for 102 yards and junior wide receiver Deon Cormier has 14 catches for 96 yards. HCU has been without its leading rusher, freshman Ismail Mahdi, the last two games.

Sophomore linebacker Rodney Dansby leads HCU and ranks third in the league with 39 tackles, while senior linebacker Brennan Young has 37 stops. Junior linebacker Jalyx Hunt has 36 tackles, ranks second in the conference with 4.5 sacks, has four quarterback hurries and has forced two fumbles. Senior safety Coi Miller has one of three Husky interceptions and a fumble return for a touchdown. Redshirt freshman linebacker Zavion Evans forced two fumbles last week at Lamar that were both returned for scores. The Huskies rank eighth nationally with 3.75 sacks per game.

Kohen Granier has completed 108-of-184 passes (58.7 percent) for 1,082 yards, seven touchdowns and six interceptions, while rushing for 79 yards and a score. Julien Gums has rushed for 285 yards and two touchdowns, while Collin Guggenheim has 232 yards and a touchdown. Al-Dontre Davis has 24 catches for 299 yards and three touchdowns, while five other receivers have 100 yards or more.

Tyler Morton leads the Colonels defense with 33 tackles, a sack and an interception. Chase Brown has 29 tackles, while Kaiden Jones and Kylin White each have 28 stops.

After HCU claimed the first-ever meeting between the two programs in 2014, Nicholls has claimed the next seven, including both matchups in a home-and-home series in 2021.

The Huskies remain at home to take on Northwestern State on Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 15, at 6 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
