LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana – The HBU men's basketball team opens Southland Conference play this Saturday against the same team the Huskies will face in the final game of the season when they take on the McNeese Cowboys in the Legacy Center at 4:00 p.m. Saturday's contest will be shown on ESPN+ with Jeff Palermo and Jordy Hultberg on the call while Garrett Jones will provide play-by-play on the Husky Sports Network, available at HBUHuskies.com.

The Huskies (4-9) will look to snap a three-game skid and open conference play with a win. At the Southland Conference Tip-Off Event, senior Zion Tordoff averaged better than 10 points per game and shot 60 percent from the floor. He raised his scoring average for the year to 7.3 ppg and is shooting 61.4 percent (35-of-57) for the season.

As a team, HBU continues to rebound well and lead the SLC in rebounding margin at +6.7, the 39th-best mark in the nation. The Huskies are also averaging 13 offensive rebounds per game, ranking 29th among all Division I teams.

McNeese (6-11) is coming off a 120-44 home win over Arlington Baptist on Wednesday after going 1-2 at the SLC Tip-Off Event. The Cowboys opened the SLC Tip-Off with a double-overtime win over New Orleans before falling to Southeastern and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

As a team, the Cowboys lead the league with just under 10 steals per game and average more than four blocked shots per outing. McNeese has four players who all average between 10 and 12 ppg and between 5.8 and 6.8 rebounds per game. Senior Myles Lewis is the top scorer with 11.9 ppg while freshman Christian Shumate is tops on the boards with 6.8 rpg.

Saturday's game will mark the first game back at the Legacy Center on the McNeese campus in nearly two years to allow for reconstruction after damage from Hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020. The men's game at 4:00 p.m. will follow the HBU and McNeese women who play at 1:00 p.m.

The Huskies will be on the road for their next two following the McNeese contest, first visiting San Antonio on Thursday, Jan. 20, to face UIW before continuing on to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Jan. 22.
