HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team kicks off Western Athletic Conference play at Sorrels Field Friday night against the UIW Cardinals at 7 p.m.
The Huskies (2-5) are 3-6 all time against the Cardinals with a 1-3 record overall at Sorrels Field. The teams have split the last six contests 3-3.
The Cardinals (1-4-1) have been shutout in three of their last four contests. Their last goal came against the University of Dayton on September the 7
th , and have since been blanked by Oral Roberts and SMU. Their only win on the season came at Sorrels Field in late August when they beat St. Thomas (MN) on the final day of the HBU Invitational.
The Cardinals are led by junior midfielder Victor Velasco who is tied for the Cardinal team lead with one goal and 454 minutes played. Senior goalkeeper Nils Roth is third in the WAC in saves with 22.
The Huskies are coming off of a heart breaking loss to Santa Clara who scored in the 86

CJ Smith is second in the conference with five goals and is in a three-way tie for second with 10 total points.
The Huskies will return to action next Friday when they host the reigning WAC champion, Grand Canyon at 7 p.m.
