NACOGDOCHES, Texas – HBU will play its final tournament before Southland Conference play begins when the Huskies take on ULM, host Stephen F. Austin and Grambling Friday and Saturday in Shelton Gym.
The Huskies (7-4) won their last two matches in five sets, first against Louisiana Tech, then against TCU last Friday in Fort Worth. Junior setter
Ellie Wipf was the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week and leads the league with 8.98 assists per set. On the outside, freshman
Alyssa May averages 2.57 kills per set, while sophomore
Sara Arroyo averages 2.31 kills per set and freshman
Alexia Jones adds 2.06 kills per set. Senior middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros leads the conference with 1.18 blocks per set. Sophomore libero
Kaley Feris ranks second in the league with 4.49 digs per set.
ULM (4-8) is led by Cali Assaley, who averages 3.39 kills per set, and Avery Cole at 2.89 kills per set. Madeline Hogan is the Warhawks' top defender at 3.56 digs per set.
SFA (5-3) is led by Ariana Pagan at 2.62 kills per set and Ielan Bradley at 2.61 kills per set. Alyssa Ortega leads the Ladyjacks with 4.83 digs per set.
Tamaira Johnson and Rayven McKenzie lead Grambling (2-4) with 1.81 kills per set. Jada Taylor averages 3.67 digs per set.
HBU will face ULM Friday at 1 p.m., followed by SFA at 7 p.m. The Huskies wrap up the tournament against Grambling Saturday at 11 a.m. HBU will return home to host McNeese in the Southland Conference opener Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. in Sharp Gym.
