Huskies defeat No. 1 seed for title

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - HBU defeated No. 1 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to win the Inaugural Southland Conference Beach Volleyball Championship Sunday afternoon at the Islander Courts at The Water's Edge. After suffering a loss on day one of the championship, the No. 2-seeded Huskies were sent to the loser's bracket, but came back beating four out of the five other teams in the tournament field for the title.

Redshirt freshman Alison Stanfill and sophomore Lauren Huggins were named Pair of the Tournament, going 5-0 at the No. 4 position.

On Friday, HBU fell to SFA, four out of five pairs finished play before SFA reached three wins sending the Huskies to play an elimination game. On Saturday, the Huskies faced No. 5 New Orleans, four of five pairs finished play and HBU won three of those matches. Saturday afternoon in a close match against No. 4 Central Arkansas, the Huskies won three of the five finished pairs sending them to a rematch against SFA. On Sunday morning the Huskies defeated SFA in another close battle, all five pairs finished play with HBU winning three of them. Sunday afternoon brought the Championship Dual between the Huskies and the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Huskies won three pairs while the Islanders won one pair leaving one match unfinished.
