LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The HBU men's soccer team heads out on their furthest trip so far this season to take on UNLV at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5 at the Johann Memorial Stadium in Las Vegas. The teams last faced each other in October of 2019 with a 3-1 HBU victory in Las Vegas as UNLV leads the series against the Huskies 6-2.
HBU (0-3-1, 0-3 WAC) are looking for their first win of the season after three tough losses to start WAC play. HBU faced Grand Canyon on Feb. 20 and scored their first goal of the season from sophomore Bryant Farkarlun, also his first goal of his HBU career. Senior Alex Reyes scored his first career goal at HBU in the close 2-1 loss in their most recent game to California Baptist. Sophomore Luis Poblacion is currently tied for third in the conference with 12 shots while adding four shots on goal. Senior Gianluca Natera is ranked fifth with 11 shots and adds five shots on goal. JP Becerra is currently ranked third in the conference with 15 saves with a 68.2 save percentage and seven goals against him.
The Rebels (0-1-2,0-1-2 WAC) are also seeking their first win of the season after a 3-2 loss to Incarnate word and back-to-back ties to Air Force, 0-0, and Seattle, 1-1. The team averages 62.5 percent for shots on goal compared to HBU 38.5 percent. Miguel Duenas Jr. Has 10 saves on the season with one goal against him while Lukas Betz has six saves with three against him.
The Huskies will return home to Sorrels field on Saturday, March 13 for a 2 p.m. game against San Jose State.
