HOUSTON – HBU softball falls 9-4 to Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon dropping the series 2-1 in the second weekend of SLC play.
HBU (9-6,2-4 SLC) split Friday's doubleheader after a late push in the final innings. In Saturday's game three, the Lions (14-12, 5-1 SLC) got a run in the first but the Huskies were able to answer and get on the board with a Jasie Roberts RBI. The Lions had a big second inning after a HBU walk with the bases loaded brought in the leading run. Cameron Goodman reached on a fielder's choice and was able to bring in two more runs on the throw. Aeriyl Mass followed with a single to bring in one run and a Madisen Blackford double with two RBI put the Lions up 7-1 and brought in another HBU pitching change. Bottom of the fifth, a Sierra Humphrey and Heidi Jaquez single put two on base for the Huskies. Autumn Sydlik stepped up to the plate and knocked a ball to center field with her second homer on the weekend to inch the Huskies back in 7-4. Top of the seventh, one out and one at second for the Lions, Goodman blasts a homerun to center for the final two runs. The Lions seal the final score with three up three down in the bottom.
Katy Janes (0-1) took the loss in the circle giving up four runs on two hits with a walk in one inning pitched. Lyndie Swanson pitched .1 inning giving up a walk and three runs on two hits. Jessica Patak went four innings throwing two runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Heather Zumo (8-2) pitched a full seven innings in the circle taking the win giving up four runs on nine hits no walks and seven strikeouts.
Huskies next see action as the travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana to face off with Northwestern State with a Friday doubleheader with a 4 p.m. start on March 26 and game three at NOON on Saturday.
