HAMMOND, La. – HBU will hit the road for three of its last four matches, including this week's trip to Southeastern Louisiana Thursday, followed by Saturday's matchup at Lamar.
HBU (6-2 SLC) and SLU (6-2 SLC) are tied for third in the Southland Conference and the winner of Thursday's match, which begins at 7 p.m. in the University Center, will clinch its spot in the Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament. Saturday's match begins with an 11 a.m. first serve.
The Huskies are led by redshirt freshman outside hitter
Reagan Leinen, who is averaging 3.20 kills per set and senior outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens, who averages 2.57 kills and 3.00 digs per set. Junior middle blocker
Jada Allen is hitting .324 with 2.50 kills and 0.97 blocks per set, while junior middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros averages 1.57 kills and a league-leading 1.37 blocks per set. Sophomore right side
Anna Gadway chips in with 2.00 kills, 3.07 digs and 0.77 blocks per set, and sophomore setter
Ellie Wipf ranks second in the Southland with 10.30 assists per set. Defensively, redshirt freshman libero
Kaley Feris averages 4.30 digs per set and freshman defensive specialist
Madeline McKinney adds 3.03.
Kailin Newsome averages 4.09 kills per set, which ranks fourth in the league, and 2.82 digs per set for the Lady Lions. Sam Gomez adds 1.88 kills and Crispin Adams averages 1.48 kills per set. Ariana Hebert averages 5.64 assists and Calli Collins averages 4.29 assists per set. Ansley Tullis leads SLU defensively with 4.21 digs per set.
Kaitlyn Gil has recorded 3.06 kills and 2.03 digs per set for Lamar (1-8), while Kayla Neumann adds 2.70 kills and Bre'Ala Box 2.06 kills per set. Hannah Waters is averaging 7.53 assists per set and Sam Swayze leads the Cardinals with 3.91 digs per set.
The Huskies return home to face Abilene Christian on Senior Night Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Sharp Gym, before wrapping up the regular-season on the road against Stephen F. Austin Saturday, March 27 in Nacogdoches, Texas. The Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament will be held March 31-April 3 at Dugan Wellness Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
