HOUSTON – For the first time since Nov. 9, 2019, HBU volleyball will host a home match inside Sharp Gym. First, the Huskies take on Sam Houston Thursday, then McNeese on Saturday, with both Southland Conference contests beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Both matches will be shown live on the Husky Sports Network with
Russ Reneau. The Volleyball Season Pass is available for $19.95, or individually for $4.95 per match for the six home matches.
The Huskies (3-5, 2-0 SLC) won their first two matches to open conference play last weekend. They are led by senior outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens, who is averaging 2.37 kills and 3.20 digs per set. Junior middle blocker
Jada Allen had double-digit kills in each of the first two matches and redshirt freshman
Reagan Leinen averaged 2.9 kills per set in both contests. Sophomore setter
Ellie Wipf is averaging 10.4 assists per set in conference play, while sophomore right side
Anna Gadway has contributed all-around with 15 kills, 26 digs, eight blocks and five aces. Redshirt freshman libero
Kaley Feris was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, averaging 5.1 digs per set in the wins over Nicholls and New Orleans.
Sam Houston is led by Ashley Lewis, who is averaging 4.38 kills per set, while Breanne Chauss is hitting .301 and averaging 2.5 kills per set. Kaira Hunicutt and McKenzie Morvant each averaged 1.25 blocks per set to rank second in the league. Hannah Baker leads the Bearkats defensively with 4.31 digs per set.
Regan Stiawalt leads McNeese with 3.67 kills per set, while Kendall Glueck adds 3.11 and Alexis Lambert 2.92. Glueck also ranks eighth in the league with nearly a block per set, while Jaiden Kennedy ranks 10
th.
The Huskies will also be at home next Thursday against UIW, before hitting the road to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday.
