NATCHITOCHES, La. – HBU will travel out of state to take on Northwestern State on Monday evening at Prather Coliseum after more than a week off due to Winter Storm Uri's effects on travel among Southland Conference programs in a game that was originally scheduled to be played on February 6. HBU (4-13, 3-6 SLC) and Northwestern State (7-14, 6-4 SLC) met in the conference opener for both team inside Sharp Gym on Jan. 2 with the Huskies winning 99-93 in overtime. Junior
Darius Lee turned in a performance that earned him SLC Player of the Week honors, posting a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. HBU trailed by five with just 52 seconds remaining in regulation before sending the game to an extra period.
The Huskies have played just three games since Jan. 27 but own a 2-1 record in that span. Most recently, HBU downed the Lamar Cardinals at home, 80-75, The Huskies shot 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from three and 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the floor in that win.
Pedro Castro set a new career-high of 21 points and continues to lead the team with 14.3 points per game.
The Demons have won their last five games and have climbed to fifth in the league standings. In that five-game stretch, NSU has had four different players lead the team in scoring. In their most recent game, a 69-66 home win over McNeese, the Demons were out-rebounded by 10 but made up for it with solid shooting from distance. Freshman Carvell Teasett finished with 17 points and was 3-of-5 from three.
Junior Trenton Massner and senior Jamaure Gregg lead the team in scoring in SLC play with Massner averaging 14.2 ppg and Gregg adding 11 ppg. Gregg and freshman Kendal Coleman lead the way on the boards with 5.1 rebounds per game each.
HBU will remain in Louisiana for its next contest, a Wednesday, Feb. 24, matchup in Thibodaux, La. against the Nicholls Colonels at 8:00 p.m.
