VB: Northwestern State Blocks HBU’s Win Streak

Lady Demons sweep Huskies

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Northwestern State turned the tables on HBU, blocking the Huskies 18 times in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) victory in Southland Conference volleyball Thursday night in Prather Coliseum.
 
HBU (12-6, 3-1 SLC), the conference leader in blocks, had its win streak snapped at four matches.
 
Junior right side Anna Gadway led the Huskies with 17 kills and added six digs, while freshman middle blocker Audrey Pearce had six kills and senior middle blocker Jada Allen had five. Junior setter Ellie Wipf dished out 33 assists and had nine digs and three kills. Freshman outside hitter Alexia Jones led HBU with 10 digs, sophomore libero Kaley Feris had nine and freshman defensive specialist Tatiana Evans had eight.
 
Symone Wesley had 14 kills and eight digs for NSU (7-12, 1-3), while Breanna Burrell had 10 kills. Jaylibeth Garcia-Rosa led the Lady Demons with seven blocks. Haley Hoang came up with 11 digs, while Piper Boyston had 35 assists and eight digs.
 
NSU hit .298 for the match, while holding HBU to .168. The Huskies outdug the Lady Demons, 48-42, but were outblocked for only the second time this season, 18-10. NSU also had four aces to HBU's one.
 
The Huskies return to action when they face Southeastern Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hammond, Louisiana.
