VB: HBU Wraps Up Fall With Pair at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – HBU will complete its abbreviated fall schedule when it faces Texas State Friday and Saturday in non-conference volleyball at Strahan Arena.
 
Friday's match begins at 6 p.m., followed by Saturday's 11 a.m. first serve that will be shown on ESPN+.
 
Junior outside hitter Kelly Colwell leads the Huskies (1-3) with 2.53 kills to go along with 4.20 digs per set, while senior outside hitter Mikayla Vivens averages 2.20 kills and 2.73 digs per set. Senior middle blocker Megan Patillo has registered 18 kills, while sophomore right side Anna Gadway and junior middle blocker Jada Allen have 13 each, with Allen leading HBU with 10 blocks. Sophomore setter Ellie Wipf has paced the offense with 7.47 assists per set, has recorded 13 kills of her own and comes up with nearly two digs per set. Sophomore libero Marisabel Torres-Rivera anchors the Huskies defensively with 4.71 digs per set.
 
Vivens (16 kills, 15 digs) and Colwell (16 kills, 17 digs) each posted double-doubles in a five-set loss to Southland Conference rival Stephen F. Austin last week, and both had double-digit digs in a sweep of ULM. Colwell also double-doubled (11 kills, 19 digs) against Louisiana on Sept. 5. Vivens has led the Southland in double-doubles each of the last two seasons, with 22 last year and 24 in 2018, giving her 47 for her career. Colwell had 12 last season and now has 16 for her career.
 
Texas State (3-1) is led by Janell Fitzgerald, who averages 3.47 kills per set and has a team-leading 13 blocks, while Caitlan Buettner averages 3.18 kills and 2.76 digs per set. Tyeranee Scott adds 2.06 kills per set. Emily DeWalt hands out 9.59 assists per set and Kayla Granado leads the Bobcats with 3.29 digs per set.
 
The Bobcats have defeated two Southland foes already, with a five-set victory over Central Arkansas and a sweep of SFA. Texas State then split two matches with UTEP the following weekend.
 
HBU will await the Southland's decision on rescheduling a conference slate for the spring.
