EDINBURG, Texas – The HBU volleyball team will face its final tuneup for Southland Conference play when it face Washington State, Texas Southern and host UT Rio Grande Valley in the UTRGV Tournament Friday and Saturday at UTRGV Fieldhouse.
The Huskies (6-6) are led by junior outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens, who has three-straight double-doubles and five for the season, and is averaging 2.93 kills and 3.54 digs per set, while sophomore outside hitter
Kelly Colwell is averaging 1.95 kills and 2.80 digs per set. Junior setter
Morgan Dewyer paces the offense with 6.81 assists per set and senior libero
Hannah Lewis anchors the defense with 3.80 digs per set. Sophomore middle blocker
Ebonie Ballesteros puts up 1.18 blocks per set.
Washington State (8-1) – Friday, Sept. 20 – 10 a.m.
The Cougars are led by Pia Timmer with 3.07 kills and 1.75 digs per set. Charity Bradley, Jocelyn Urias, Magda Jehlarova and Regan Cooper all average 2.15 kills per set or more. Jehlarova averages 1.61 blocks per set. Hannah Pukis dishes out 9.30 assists per set and Alexis Dirige comes up with 4.68 digs per set.
Texas Southern (1-5) – Friday, Sept. 20 – 4:30 p.m.
Alexis Austin averages 2.39 kills and 2.00 digs per set for the Tigers. Breyanna York averages 6.13 assists per set and Valencia Grayson leads the team with 2.70 digs per set.
UT Rio Grande Valley (5-6) – Saturday, Sept. 21 – 1:30 p.m.
Barbara Silva averages 3.58 kills and Sarah Cruz addes 3.15 kills per set for UTRGV. Debora Nazario hands out 9.40 assists per set and Samaret Caraballo leads the team with 4.22 digs per set.
