CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With wins in its last two games, the HBU men's basketball team stands in a two-way tie for sixth place in the Southland Conference standings but a variety of scenarios still exist depending on results around the league on Saturday that could give the Huskies the sixth seed in the conference tournament or leave them out altogether as they close the regular season against Texas A&M-Corpus Christ at 5:00 p.m. inside the American Bank Center. Husky fans can listen to all the action on the Husky Sports Network with Lonnie King providing play-by-play commentary, available at HBUHuskies.com.

HBU (12-16, 8-9 SLC) is fresh off its second-highest scoring output of the season, a 118-111 win over Incarnate Word in which the Huskies shot 62.9 percent (39-of-62) from the floor and totaled 40 free throw attempts, making 30 of those. That game was the fourth time this season HBU has scored at least 100 points in a game. The Huskies currently boast the 16th highest scoring offense in the nation, averaging 82.8 points per game.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-17, 8-9 SLC) has kept pace with the Huskies by winning the last two games on the road over Incarnate Word and McNeese. The Islanders are led by juniors Kareem South and Jashawn Talton with South scoring a team-leading 15.6 points per game in SLC play and Talton adding 10.6 ppg.

When the Huskies and Islanders met in Houston of Feb. 2, HBU built a 10 point lead and held off the Islanders in the second half to emerge with a 73-72 win. Senior Stephen O'Suji led the Huskies with 18 points while Ty Dalton added 14 and Benjamin Uloko scored 12. South led TAMUCC with 24 points.

With both teams tied for sixth, a win will ensure the no. 6 seed in the SLC tournament for either side. Should Stephen F. Austin and Central Arkansas both lose on Saturday, the loser of the HBU-TAMUCC game will earn the seventh seed. The lone scenario which would result in the Huskies not qualifying for the tournament would be a loss to the Islanders coupled with wins by both SFA and UCA.

If HBU qualifies for the tournament, it will play its first round game on Wednesday, Mar. 13, at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas at either 5:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
