SB: HBU Softball Home Opener vs Texas Southern Saturday
HOUSTON, TX- HBU Softball prepares for a double-header Saturday against cross town rivals Texas Southern at 1p.m. You can watch live at hbu.edu/live as Saturday will be the Huskies home opener as they began the season on the road at the Black & Gold Invitational. The Huskies are sporting a .284 team batting average with eight combined doubles.
Jessica Patak (0-2) took a hard luck loss her last time in the circle for the Huskies, but is bringing a 3.29 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.
HBU (1-3) dropped a game to Tennessee Tech their last time out by a score of 6-7, in which they led most of the game.
Amber Lotz currently leads HBU in batting average going 4-6 last weekend for a .667 average.
Sierra Humphrey is right behind her with a .556 average including a team high 2 doubles.
Brooke Bushman rounds out the hitting leaders batting right at .300 on the season with one double.
Texas Southern (0-1) dropped their first contest of the season against fellow Southland Conference team Sam Houston State by a score of 2-7. In the loss catcher Marrisa Padron connected with a pitch in the fifth inning for a two run homerun to get Texas Southern on the scoreboard. Danielle Sonnier collected two hits in the game going 2-3 with a run scored.
HBU will hit the road following the double-header this Saturday to face off in the Lady Demon Classic. The Huskies will matchup against University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, Saint Louis, and host team Northwestern State. Play will begin Feb. 22 at 10a.m. against UAPB.
