HOUSTON – For the fourth time in five games so far this season, the HBU men's soccer team found themselves in overtime as they played to a scoreless draw against visiting Oral Roberts on Friday night at Sorrels Field.
The Huskies (1-2-2) put more than half of their shots on goal but found the back of the net elusive. Senior
Devon Grant got the first good look of the match in the 13
th minute, placing a shot to the lower left corner of the goal but Oral Roberts' (2-2-1) goalkeeper Miles Motakef got a hand on it and knocked it wide of the post. Both teams saw shot attempts miss wide over the next 27 minutes until HBU's
Gianluca Natera put a shot on goal but Motakef again came up with the save, sending the game to halftime even at 0-0.
The Golden Eagles came out on the offensive in the second period with three shots, two of them on goal, within the first four minutes. In the 67
th minute, ORU's Paul Amponsah was sent off with a red card, giving the Huskies a man advantage the rest of the way. Consequently, Oral Roberts got a shot on goal less than three minutes later but it was the last attempt the Golden Eagles would put on target.
For HBU,
Malik Key and
Dominick Faletto both had shots on line get stopped by Motakef in the second period as the ORU defense held strong. Perhaps the most dangerous shot of the night came in the 99
th minute during the first overtime when
Josue Palomino sent a rocket through traffic but Motakef was able to make the stop and fall on the rebound to maintain the shutout.
The shot attempts for the match were close with HBU attempting 14 to ORU's 13 but the bigger difference came in shots on goal with the Huskies holding an 8-3 advantage. HBU also had an advantage in corner kicks with seven to the Golden Eagles' four.
HBU hosts Central Arkansas this Sunday, Sep. 9, at Sorrels Field with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
