HOUSTON – HBU opened Western Athletic Conference men's soccer action last weekend with a strong 2-0 win over visiting Utah Valley and the Huskies will have a chance to remain unbeaten at home with matches against San Jose State and 19th-ranked Seattle this weekend.

HBU (3-2-2, 1-0-0 WAC) and San Jose State (3-4-1, 1-0-0 WAC) start the weekend off on Friday, Sep. 28, evening at Sorrels Field with a 7:00 p.m. start time before No. 19 Seattle (6-3-0, 0-1-0 WAC) comes to town on Sunday, Sep. 30, at 2:00 p.m. after playing at UMKC on Friday evening.

The Huskies are on a three-game unbeaten streak, having drawn with Oral Roberts then beaten SMU and Utah Valley. That recent stretch has pushed the Huskies' RPI to just outside the top-50, ranking 51st nationally. That RPI rank is the fourth-highest among WAC program with Seattle one of the four ahead of HBU.

Senior midfielder Darrell Johnson scored the game-winning goal against the Wolverines last weekend on his first goal of the season while Dequan Thomas's goal was his second of the year. Dominick Faletto earned assists on both goals for his first two of the season. As a team, the Huskies remain one of the top defensive teams in the conference with a goals against average of 1.05 for the third-best mark in the league.

San Jose State opened the season with a draw at defending national champion Stanford and owns a 2-2-1 mark away from home this season. The Spartans opened WAC play last weekend, riding a pair of early goals and a nine-save performance from goalkeeper Alex Clewis to a 2-1 win at CSU Bakersfield. Clewis leads the league with 43 total saves on the year. Offensively, sophomores Omar Lemus and Willy Miranda have combined to score seven of the team's 11 goals with Lemus leading the team in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11).

Seattle, after opening its WAC schedule two weeks ago with a 2-1 loss at WAC newcomer California Baptist, has won its last three including a 2-0 win at 16th-ranked Washington. The Redhawks have spread the wealth around thus far with nine different players scoring goals. Three different players are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece while freshman Declan McGlynn leads the way with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists). Senior Josh Adachi has played every minute in goal, making 21 saves and recording three shutouts so far.

After this initial three-game homestand to open conference play, HBU hits the road for the next three beginning on Friday, Oct. 5, when the Huskies head to San Antonio for a game at Incarnate Word as the second match of a doubleheader following the women's team.
