EDINBURG, Texas – HBU cruised past Texas Southern, 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-18), after dropping a 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-22) decision to Texas Tech Friday at the UTRGV Tournament at UTRGV Fieldhouse.
In the win over TSU, sophomore outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens recorded 10 kills and 16 digs for the Huskies (7-6). Freshman outside hitter
Catherine Drapela hit .400 with eight kills and sophomore middle blocker
Megan Patillo added seven kills and three blocks. Senior setter
Madison O'Brien had 28 assists, with sophomore setter
Morgan Dewyer dishing out 11 to go along with three aces. Junior libero
Hannah Lewis had 11 digs and freshman defensive specialist CiCi Collins came up with nine.
Eboni Mitchell led the Lady Tigers (1-10) with nine kills and Kirby Anderson had seven. Breyanna York had 21 assists, six digs and five kills, while Alexis Praytor led TSU with 10 digs.
The Huskies hit .350 and held the Lady Tigers to .102. HBU outdug TSU, 52-47, outblocked them, 6-2, and outaced them, 8-3.
In the morning loss to Texas Tech, Vivens had 10 kills and 15 digs and sophomore right side
Ashtyn Richey added seven kills. Drapela and Patillo contributed six kills each, while senior middle blocker
Kayla Davenport had five kills and three blocks. O'Brien handed out 26 assists to go along with seven digs, Lewis added 13 digs and Collins had seven digs.
Emily Hill led the Red Raiders (9-3) with 11 kills and 14 digs, with Allison White and Haley Killinger each posting eight kills. Katy Keenan posted seven kills and four blocks and Missy Owens had 35 assists. Emerson Solano led Texas Tech defensively with 22 digs.
Texas Tech hit .266, compared to .190 for HBU. The Red Raiders outdug the Huskies, 57-50, and held slight edges of 6-5 in both blocks and aces.
The Huskies wrap up the tournament and non-conference play for the season against host UT Rio Grande Valley Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
