KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two goals in the first nine minutes gave the HBU men's soccer team an early 2-0 lead but UMKC managed to defeat the Huskies 4-3 on Saturday evening at Durwood Stadium in the season finale for both teams.
Senior 
Devon Grant got the scoring started for HBU (5-8-3, 3-6-1 WAC) with a header past the keeper with an assist from 
Darrell Johnson during the fifth minute. Less than five minutes later, it was Johnson who took a penalty kick for the Huskies and converted from the spot to give HBU a 2-0 lead at the 8:49 mark. UMKC (5-12-0, 4-7-0 WAC) got on the board with a Pandelis Popgeorgiev goal in the 31
st minute to send things into the half with HBU leading 2-1.
Mirko Orchi evened the score at two goals apiece just over six minutes into the second period on a free kick. Popgeorgiev struck again at the 58:49 mark with an assist from Christian Anderaos. Seven and a half minutes later, the Kangaroos scored their fourth-consecutive goal with David Ray Campoy finding the net with Anderaos picking up assist number two for the game. Grant's second goal of the match brought the Huskies back to within one with a header off a 
Gianluca Natera corner kick at the 84 minute mark. HBU earned a corner kick in the 89
th minute but wasn't able to get another shot off to try and tie the game.
The two goals were the first of the season for Grant in his final game for the Huskies while Johnson, also a senior, finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Huskies and give him two goals and three assists for the season. Natera closes out the season as the team's leader with five goals and six assists. In goal, seniors 
Harrison Veith and 
Chance Pope split time. Veith started the first half, allowing one goal while making four saves while Pope suffered the loss in the final 45 minutes.
