HUNTSVILLE, Texas – HBU struggled to find its rhythm offensive as Sam Houston State claimed a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 26-24) decision in Southland Conference volleyball Tuesday night at Johnson Coliseum.

Ashtyn Richey had nine kills, with sophomore outside hitter
Mikayla Vivens matching her with nine kills to go along with eight digs for the Huskies (10-12, 3-5 SLC). Vivens snapped a streak of 11-straight matches with double-digit kills and six-straight double-doubles. Senior middle blocker
Kayla Davenport had seven kills and four blocks and senior setter
Madison O'Brien had 30 assists and 10 digs. Junior libero
Hannah Lewis had 11 digs and freshman defensive specialist
Cici Collins had 10.
Caroline Sheaff led the Bearkats (15-5, 7-1) with 15 kills and Breanne Chausse added 10. Madison Wallace came up with 14 digs and Taylor Cunningham had 12. Jaclyn Ward recorded 33 assists and seven digs.
SHSU hit .198 for the match, while HBU hit only .067. The Bearkats outdug the Huskies, 55-49, and outblocked them, 8-7. Each team had four aces.
The Huskies return home to host McNeese Thursday at 7 p.m., followed by Lamar Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sharp Gym. On Saturday, fans with tickets to the football game against Stephen F. Austin will receive free admission to the volleyball match.
