EDINBURG, Texas – Sophomore Dominick Faletto converted a penalty kick in the 109th minute to win the match and Dequan Thomas scored his first goal as a Husky as HBU picked up its first win of the 2017 season, 2-1, against St. Bonaventure late Sunday afternoon at the UTRGV Track & Field and Soccer Complex.

HBU (1-1) struck early when Thomas, a sophomore, received a pass from Josue Palomino and quickly turned and sent a shot over the St. Bonaventure (2-1-1) keeper for his first collegiate goal, putting the Huskies ahead 1-0 less than seven minutes into the match. Harrison Veith was solid in the first half with four saves as the Husky defense held the Bonnies to five total shots in the half while HBU attempted 10.

In the second period, HBU came out firing with a Darrell Johnson shot hitting the post less than a minute and a half in and a Tim Watson attempt getting stopped by SBU goalkeeper Luke Iacobellis in the 52nd minute. The half remained scoreless until the 84th minute when a Paul Afful corner kick found Kieran Toland on the back side of the goal where Toland converted and tied the match at 1-1.

St. Bonaventure attempted the lone shot of the first overtime period, a try by Isaiah Wilson that was blocked by the Husky back line. Things remained knotted at 1-1 until the 108:02 mark when Wilson picked up a yellow card, sending Faletto to the penalty spot for a PK attempt. Faletto found the net to earn the victory.

Junior transfer Harrison Veith earned the win between the pipes for the Huskies in his HBU debut. Veith made five saves in earning the win. The Huskies out-shot St. Bonaventure 22-13 for the match. Corner kicks in the match ended 8-7 in HBU's favor.

The win marks the first at HBU for head coach Ryan Pratt in his first season at the helm of the Huskies' program.

HBU travels to Georgia next weekend for the Coastal Empire Challenge, hosted by Georgia Southern, where the Huskies will take on the hosts on Friday in Savannah, Ga. and then Gardner Webb on Sunday in Statesboro, Ga.
