SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The HBU men's soccer team wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Friday evening against fellow WAC member Incarnate Word at Benson Stadium with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.
Friday's matchup will be the home-opener for Incarnate Word (2-2-1), with the Cardinals posting a 1-2 record on the road and a 1-1 mark in matches played at a neutral site. Most recently, the Cardinals dropped a 3-0 decision at Bradley. UIW's two wins have come over Central Arkansas and Oakland.
As a team, UIW has six goals on the season with a different player scoring each one. Senior Ryan Osborne leads the team with three points (1g, 1a) while he and Trinidad Luna have both put five shots on goal. Brendan Brown, a sophomore, has started all five matches between the pipes, ceding eight goals with 18 saves.
The Huskies (2-2-0) enter the match having gone a week and a half between matches. HBU split their last two contests on a road trip that included Georgia Southern and Gardner-Webb. The Huskies fell to the Eagles in Statesboro, Ga. by a score of 1-0 before beating the Bulldogs 3-1 in Boiling Springs, N.C.
HBU has out-scored opponents 5-4 so far this season with five different players netting goals. Sophomore
Dominick Faletto is leading the way with three points (1g, 1a) and also leads the team in shots, with 11, and shots on goal, with six. While three different players have made starts in goal for the Huskies, junior
Chance Pope has made two and owns a 1-1 record. Pope has allowed two goals in 180 minutes and made five saves.
The Huskies are 3-6-0 all-time against the Cardinals, including a 2-0 victory at Sorrels Field last season with
Malik Key and Marc-Anthone supplying the goals. HBU and Incarnate Word will face each other again in a WAC matchup at Sorrels Field on Oct. 29 to close out the regular season.
WAC play begins for HBU on Thursday, Sep. 28, with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. to face preseason WAC favorite UNLV at 9:00 p.m. CST.
