LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana – HBU volleyball begins Southland Conference play with three road matches in five days, beginning with McNeese Thursday at 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym.
The Huskies will head to Thibodaux, Louisiana, to take on Nicholls Saturday at 1 p.m., then to Conway, Arkansas, to face Central Arkansas Monday at 7 p.m.
The Huskies (8-4, 0-0 SLC) are led by senior outside hitters
Bailey Banks (3.38 kills/3.49 digs per set) and
Jessica Wooten (2.82/3.44 digs per set). Freshman setter
Abby Gargus ranks second in the league with 9.76 assists per game, while adding 1.21 kills and 2.07 digs per set. Senior middle blocker
Blair Gillard is tied for the conference lead with 1.30 blocks per set and averages 1.93 kills per set and junior middle blocker
Kayla Davenport posts 1.00 block, which ranks seventh in the league, and 1.49 kills per set. Redshirt freshman right side
Ashtyn Richey chips in with 2.08 kills per set and senior libero
Hailey Erickson leads the team with 3.91 digs per set and ranks fourth in the SLC in aces.
McNeese (9-6, 1-0) is led by Shanna Spree, who averages 2.75 kills, and Keegan Nelms, who averages 2.31 kills per set. Angela McGownd anchors the Cowgirls defensively with 5.53 digs per set and Adison Giambrone (5.07 assists per set) and Angela Aguilera (4.84 assists per set) run the offense.
Nicholls (2-12, 0-1) has three players averaging more than two kills per set in Imanie Williams (2.57), Stephanie Tobison (2.38) and Brieanna Hill (2.26). Tobison also adds 3.00 digs per set and Hill averges 2.12 digs per set, while Emily Venable leads the Colonels with 4.20 digs per set. Jade Piper paces the offense with 7.24 assists per set.
Central Arkansas (11-1, 0-0) started the season with an eight-match winning streak, led by Samantha Anderson's 3.37 kills per set and Haley Tippett's 3.21 kills and 2.62 digs per set. Megan Nash averages 2.23 kills and 1.08 blocks per set and Emily Doss leads the Sugar Bears with 3.38 digs per set. Elizabeth Armstrong leads the conference with 10.40 assists per set.
