ABILENE, Texas – HBU could not find its stride offensively as Abilene Christian claimed a 24-3 victory in the Southland Conference opener Saturday night in the first-ever game at Wildcat Stadium.

Senior running back Terrance Peters led the Huskies (1-2, 0-1 SLC) with 63 yards on eight carries. Freshman quarterback Bailey Zappe completed 7-of-20 passes for 34 yards and an interceptions, while sophomore Jack Swensen completed 4-of-8 for 26 yards and an interception.

Senior linebacker Garrett Dolan, the FCS's active leader in total tackles, broke his own single-game school record with 19 stops. Sophomore safety Nicholas Smith added 12 and made his second interception of the season. Junior cornerback Raphael Lewis, senior linebacker Cody Moncure and sophomore defensive end Andre Walker each had seven tackles.

Dallas Sealey completed 28-of-38 passes for 195 yards, a touchdown and an interception and rushed for 46 yards for ACU (1-2, 1-0). Tracy James carried 10 times for 56 yards and De'Andre Brown rushed for 25 yards and a score. Brown and DeShun Qualls each made six receptions, Josh Fink caught three passes for 57 yards and a score, while Carl Whitley made three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Royce Moore and Brandon Richmond each had five tackles to lead the Wildcats defensively, with Richmond also adding an interception. Aneas Hendricks also came up with a pick for ACU.

ACU had the ball for 38:50, limiting HBU to 21:10, and ran 82 plays to gain 386 yards, while the Huskies ran only 51 and gained 129 yards. HBU also turned the ball over three times to once for ACU.

In the second quarter, the Wildcats methodically moved down the field on a series of short passes. After appearing the Huskies would drop him for a loss on third-and-goal, Brown made a nifty move near the sideline, then turned upfield for a 5-yard touchdown.

HBU answered to get on the board with sophomore kicker Alec Chadwick's 54-yard field goal with 4:34 left in the half.

ACU got the ball back and struck just before the break when Whitley hit Whitley for a 33-yard touchdown receptions with 38 seconds left for a 14-3 lead.

The Wildcats took a 17-3 lead on Nick Grau's 23-yard field goal with 14:18 to go in the game, then tacked on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Luke Anthony to Josh Fink with 1:38 on the clock.

The Huskies return to action when they face McNeese Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
