ARLINGTON, Texas – On Wednesday evening, HBU dropped a non-conference matchup against the Mavericks of UT Arlington at Allen Saxe Field by a score of 9-1.
UT Arlington (16-13) got on the board in the top of the first when a Laura Curry fielder's choice grounder brought Krista Rude home. Two batters later, two more runs crossed on an Aileen Garcia single up the middle for a 3-0 lead after one.
In the second, the Mavericks pushed four more runs across on four hits that included a double off the bat of Curry to make it a 7-0 ballgame. Freshman
Amber Lotz led off the HBU (7-13) half of the third by reaching on an error before advancing to second on a
Cecilia Bauer hit by pitch.
Nicole Shedd loaded the bases with an infield single and a one-out walk to
Libby Brown brought Lotz home to get the Huskies on the board.
UT Arlington scored its final two runs in the fourth on a Mallory Foster home run.
The Huskies finished the game with just three hits compared to the Mavericks' 11.
Demi Janak, Shedd and
Kay Schroeder accounted for HBU's three hits.
Emily Mueller took the loss in the circle, falling to 3-9 on the year. The senior allowed seven runs, six earned, on eight hits over two innings.
Shae Bibby pitched two innings in the relief, allowing two earned runs.
HBU returns home after a month without a game at Husky Field to host Abilene Christian in a three-game Southland Conference series beginning Friday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. and a single game on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
