BEAUMONT, Texas – HBU fell by a score of 10-2 on Saturday afternoon to the Lamar Cardinals at the Lamar Softball Complex.
Lamar (13-13, 6-0 SLC) got started in the first after the first two Cardinals drew walks before getting run on a groundout to second. Leading 1-0, Lamar took advantage of an HBU (7-12, 0-6 SLC) error and three hits to push four more runs across for an early 5-0 lead.
Three Husky errors in the fourth opened the door to three more Lamar runs and an 8-0 deficit. In the HBU half of the fifth,
Cecilia Bauer,
Brooke Bushman and
Kay Schroeder all reached on one-out singles to load the bases before
Shae Bibby doubled down the right field line to bring two runs across. Lamar added a single run in both the fifth and the sixth to end the game.
Bushman finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a run scored.
Emily Mueller took the loss in the circle, falling to 3-8 on the season. The HBU senior allowed five runs, four earned, in two innings of work. The Huskies' four errors were their most in a game this season.
The Huskies will stay on the road for their next game, a non-conference matchup at UT Arlington on Wednesday, March 22, at 6:00 p.m.
