HOUSTON – Senior outside hitter
Jessica Wooten recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs to push the Huskies past Northwestern State, 3-1 (25-21, 25-19, 15-25, 25-23) in Southland Conference volleyball Saturday afternoon at Sharp Gym. With the win, HBU secured a berth to the Southland Conference Tournament.

Blair Gillard recorded 11 kills, five digs, five blocks, and three assists while senior outside hitter
Bailey Banks finished with seven kills and digs along with three assists and a block. Senior libero
Hailey Erickson led the Huskies (18-9, 9-5) defensively with 15 digs, adding three assists, while sophomore defensive specialist
Hannah Lewis pulled up 14. Junior middle blocker

Ashtyn Richey chipped in with six kills each.
Reagan Rogers led the Lady Demons (13-16, 8-6) with 18 kills and 15 digs. Hannah Brister contributed 14 kills and five blocks while Kathryn Wristen dished out 40 assists, and Hannah Burleson added six assists and 15 digs. Brooke Wood and Alexis Warren each posted four kills.
The Huskies hit .165, while NSU posted a .130 attacking percentage. HBU led the Lady Demons in digs 71-67, NSU led the Huskies in kill 48-45 and assists 47-40.
The Lady Demons led early by a score of 7-11, after an eight point run in the fourth set. A kill by Ritchey, an ace by Banks, and a three-point run by the Huskies would tie the game, 14-14. For six points, both teams went point-for-point. A kill and an ace by Gillard and a kill by Banks gave HBU the lead but Rogers responded with a kill after an error by the Huskies bringing the score to 20-18. Two kills by Wooten and one kill by Banks contributed to the final points of the match finishing with a fourth set score of 25-23.
NSU jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the third, but the Huskies responded back with a block by Richey and Davenport, and a kill by Richey and a kill by Gillard. The efforts were not enough as HBU dropped the third set to NSU by as score of 25-15.
NSU led HBU early in the second set with a score of 7-5, but an ace by Lewis and an attack error by Rogers brought the Huskies within one point of the Lady Demons. Neither team had more than a one-point lead until the Huskies scored eight in a row behind the serve of Gargus to lead, 24-19. A kill by Banks put the set away with a final score of 25-19.
Both teams went point-for-point throughout the first set. With the score at 19-19, an ace by Banks gave the Huskies the lead, but Rogers answered back after an NSU timeout. A service error put the Huskies back on top to lead 21-20. A kill by Warren tied the score, but a kill by Wooten reclaimed the lead for HBU. The Huskies were able to pull away after a block by Gillard and Gargus. HBU scored its final two points on kills by Wooten and Gillard.
The Huskies return to action on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7:00 p,m. at Sharp Gym against New Orleans.
