CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Abilene Christian pulled out the clutch points to grind past HBU, 3-1 (26-24, 27-25, 19-25, 25-23), in the semfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Dugan Wellness Center.
Senior outside hitter
Jessica Wooten had 15 kills, a career-high 30 digs and four blocks, while senior outside hitter
Bailey Banks had 16 kills, 22 digs and four blocks for the Huskies (21-10). Senior middle blocker
Blair Gillard added 13 kills and eight blocks, while junior middle blocker
Kayla Davenport had seven kills and four blocks. Junior setter
Madison O'Brien had 52 assists, 23 digs, three kills and four blocks. Senior libero
Hailey Erickson added 12 digs and sophomore defensive specialist
Hannah Lewis chipped in with eight.
Jacey Smith led ACU (13-17) with 20 kills, 10 digs and four blocks and Katelyn Mueller had 11 kills and 15 digs. Lauren Walker added eight kills, Lorin McNeil had seven kills and six blocks and Corinne Grandcolas had five kills and six blocks. Kendall Bosse paced the Wildcats with 44 assists, 13 digs and five kills. Amanda Chapa came up with 31 digs and Mikai Brown had 13.
The Wildcats hit .175 for the match and held the Huskies to .164. HBU outdug ACU, 102-88, and outblocked the Wildcats, 14-13. Both teams had three aces.
ACU will face the winner of the Texas-A&M Corpus Christi-Central Arkansas semifinal in Sunday's championship match.
