HOUSTON – After Hurricane Harvey canceled the season-opening HBU Invitational, the Husky men's soccer team has played its first seven matches away from home. The Huskies will host UMKC on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Sorrels Field before hitting the road again for Colorado Springs, Colo. where they will face No. 13 Air Force on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. CST.
HBU (3-4-0, 0-2-0 WAC) entered Western Athletic Conference play 3-2-0 but dropped its first two conference matches at UNLV, 3-1, and at Grand Canyon, 5-2. Scoring has been spread between seven different Huskies with
Dominick Faletto and
Malik Key tied for the team-lead with two apiece. Faletto leads the way with six total points, adding a pair of assists to his two goals. As a team, HBU has posted a shots-on-goal percentage of .461 (41-of-89).
In goal, three different goalkeepers have combined for a 1.67 goals against average.
Harrison Veith sports a 2-0-0 record in his two starts, including the team's lone shutout, while
Jorge Cabrera leads the team with 15 total saves in two matches.
UMKC (4-3-3, 2-0-0 WAC) won its first two league matches, coming from behind to beat UT Rio Grande Valley, 3-2, and blanking Incarnate Word, 1-0, in a pair of home matches. Eric McWoods is the reigning WAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring every goal last week for the Kangaoos, including a hat trick against UTRGV. McWoods leads the Roos with seven goals and 16 points (7g, 2a). Filippo Errico has played every minute in goal for UMKC, posting four shutouts with a save percentage of .800 and a goals against average of 1.03.
Air Force (8-1-1, 2-0-0 WAC) enters the weekend ranked 13
th in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll and first in the West region. The Falcons are undefeated in their last six matches with a record of 5-1, including a 2-1 overtime victory over Incarnate Word and a 1-0 win over UTRGV last week. The Falcons sport a defense that has allowed just four goals in 10 matches with seven shutouts. Tucker Bone, Klint Parker and John Sims are all tied for the team lead with three goals. USAFA's two goalkeepers have combined for a goals against average of 0.39 and a .852 save percentage.
The Huskies are 2-1-1 all-time against the Kangaroos, winning last season's matchup at Sorrels Field, 2-1. Air Force holds a slight 5-4-2 advantage in the series history with HBU with the Huskies dropping last season's match, 2-0.
