MBB: HBU Closes Homestand with UIW on Monday

HOUSTON – The HBU men's basketball team will close their homestand, hosting Incarnate Word in Sharp Gym at 7 p.m. tip on Monday. A video and audio broadcast with Lonnie King will be available on HBUHuskies.com, beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show.
 
The Huskies (16-11, 10-4 SLC) are coming off a 73-71 thriller over Abilene Christian on Thursday, guaranteeing no worse than a .500 season and securing a spot in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. With 1:28 left in the second half, HBU and the Wildcats sat knotted up at 63-all. Senior Caleb Crayton broke the tie with a layup on the ensuing possession and senior Anthony Odunsi went a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line over the final 49 seconds to secure the win.
 
HBU, currently tied for third in the league standings, is first in the SLC in defensive rebounding (27.1 per game), second in field goal percentage (.478), tied for second in blocks (4.4 per game), third in scoring (77.6 per game) and fourth in both free throw percentage (.714) and rebounding (37.5 per game). In league play, sophomore Josh Ibarra leads all in field goal percentage (.686) and junior Alex Fountain holds the mark in free throw percentage (.938), while Odunsi ranks third in scoring (20.1 per game).

On the season, Ibarra leads the league from the field (.631) and senior Jourdan Stickler ranks third in 3-point field goal percentage (.436). Odunsi, who sits third in scoring (17.5 per game), is fifth at the NCAA Division I level with 194 made free throws and tied for fifth with 231 attempts.
 
Freshman Isaiah Robinson leads the SLC in blocks (2.4 per game), sitting third in the country among all freshman and 28th overall. Robinson is also tied for 11th among freshman with 47 total blocks.
 
The Cardinals enter the week at 13-11 overall (8-5 SLC) under head coach Ken Burmeister and sit fifth in the conference standings. UIW, which leads the SLC in 3-pointers (7.8 per game), is led offensively by senior Kyle Hittle (15.2 per game) and sophomore Jontrell Walker (12.2 per game). Walker leads the nation in free throw percentage (.937).
 
Following Monday's tilt, HBU will visit Stephen F. Austin in a 6 p.m. tip Saturday on ESPN3.
