HOUSTON - This Wednesday the HBU men's basketball team heads across town to Tudor Fieldhouse on the Rice University campus to face the Owls at 7:00 p.m. Husky fans can listen to the action live thanks to Lonnie King and the Legacy Sports Network live audio broadcast available at HBUHuskies.com.
The Huskies (2-3), 3-7 all-time against Rice (5-1), have won the last three meetings between the programs with those three games occurring over the last three seasons. Last year, HBU won 77-73 at Sharp Gym. Each of the last three meetings have been decided by four or fewer points.
HBU is coming off a road loss to Big East member Marquette, falling by a score of 101-79. Five Huskies scored in double-digits in the loss with sophomore
Asa Cantwell knocking down 4-6 from three and finishing with 12 points, four assists and four rebounds while
Josh Ibarra also added 12 on 6-12 shooting.
As a team, the Huskies are currently 12
th in the nation with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.57 thanks in large part to a team average of just 10.8 turnovers per game, the 17
th-lowest mark in the nation.
Rice is currently riding a four-game winning streak with its lone loss coming to Texas Southern. In their last game, they defeated Southland Conference rival Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, 87-79. Marcus Evans is averaging 21.2 points per game while Egor Koulechov is adding 19.5 with the two combining to score nearly half of Rice's points this season. Koulechov also leads the Owls on the boards with 8.5 per contest.
HBU will have a week off before returning to action in the friendly confines of Sharp Gym on Wednesday, December 7, against MAAC-member St. Peter's at 7:00 p.m.
