MSOC: Huskies Come up Short to San Jose State, 2-1

Darrell Johnson scored his second goal of the season.

SAN JOSE, California – A high scoring second half did not go in favor of HBU soccer as San Jose State prevailed 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference matchup at CEFCU Stadium, Friday night.

As both teams went into the second half scoreless, it was the head of San Jose State's (2-10-2, 1-3-1 WAC), Jeffrey Dukes in the 50th minute to break the tie. The goal came off of a corner kick taken by Suliman Khorami, which was placed inside of the six yard box. In the 59th minute the Spartans got another one past sophomore goalkeeper Chance Pope. This time it was Khorami who fed the ball to Darren Sinclair, then he passed it to Jeremy Romero who took the shot on the right inside part of the box. The 2-0 lead was short lived as the Husky (3-8-1, 1-4-0 WAC) combination of junior midfielder Marc-Anthone to sophomore midfielder Darrell Johnson from 21 yards out happened 43 seconds later.

HBU was lead offensively by sophomore forward Lucas de Paula and freshman forward Malik Key as they each had three shots on goal with the team's total of 12. Pope took home the loss after making seven saves with two goals against.

Romero led the Spartans with three shots on goal, while the team got a total of nine. Nedin Tucakovis recorded nine saves and one goal against, while getting help from his teammates who made two saves.
