HBU (7-7, 2-0 SLC) is coming off an 82-73 win in its Southland Conference home opener with McNeese State on Tuesday. Sophomore
Josh Ibarra turned in his fourth double-double of the season, registering 17 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
Anthony Odunsi led all with 22 points and four assists against the Cowboys (2-10, 0-2 SLC), while junior
Alex Fountain turned in 10 points and a career-high eight rebounds in his first start of the season.
On the season, Ibarra ranks second in the SLC in field goal percentage (.609), seventh in rebounds (6.6 per game) and tied for seventh in blocks (1.4 per game), while Odunsi sits fifth in scoring (15.9 per game) and seventh in free throw percentage (.842). In conference play, Odunsi is second in the league with 24.5 points per game and is the reigning SLC Player of the Week after averaging 23 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists, against Ecclesia and Northwestern State.
Two players providing early returns in their freshman seasons are
Isaiah Robinson and
Asa Cantwell. Both stack up well against other players in the league and lead all freshman in their respective categories. Robinson is second in the SLC in blocks (2.3 per game), sitting fifth in the country among freshman, while Cantwell is 13th in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.392) and leads HBU with 20 hits from distance.
The Lions are 2-12 overall (0-1 SLC) under head coach Jay Ladner with wins over Mississippi College (76-69) and Loyola New Orleans (101-65). SELA is led offensively by senior Zay Jackson's 12.4 points and 4.5 assists per game.
Following Saturday's tilt, the Huskies will close their homestand in a 7 p.m. tip against Nicholls on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
