HOUSTON – The HBU men's soccer team opens the regular season this weekend, hosting Lubbock Christian Friday at 7:30 pm at Sorrels Field, then travel to Bradley University for a Sunday night showdown on ESPN3. First kick Sunday is at 7 pm central time.

The meeting against the Chaps will be the first on the pitch, while Bradley won the only meeting against HBU, 1-0, Oct. 3, 2010 at Sorrels Field.

HBU won its only preseason contest, an impressive 5-1 showing against a St. Thomas squad that went 12-4-1 last season. The Huskies scored four first half goals and senior George Kelley had a five-point night with two goals and an assist. HBU was leading Sunday's exhibition over St. Edward's, 2-0, before lightning canceled the remainder of the game.
 
Lubbock Christian tied its only exhibition contest, 1-1, over Western Texas College. The Chaps return last year's leading scorer, senior Lennard Hansen, who had 10 goals and five assists for 25 points.
 
Bradley went 0-2-1 against stiff competition in the preseason. The Braves faced two nationally-ranked opponents in No. 6 Creighton (L 0-3) and No. 25 Akron (L 1-3). Bradley opens the regular season at Illinois-Chicago Friday before its home opener against the Huskies. The Braves lost last year's leading scorer, but return top goalkeeper, Logan Ketterer, who went 7-7-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, a .800 save percentage, and four shutouts.
 
Following this weekend, HBU takes part in the UT-Rio Grande Valley Tournament Sept. 4-6 against IPFW and Buffalo.
