FORT WORTH – HBU missed 19 of its first 25 shots as TCU built a 32-point first-half lead en route to a 90-63 victory in the opening game of the Cancun Challenge Thursday night at Wilkerson-Greines Arena.

Senior guard Anthony Odunsi led the Huskies (1-2) with 14 points, four rebounds and five assists, shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 6-for-8 from the line. Junior forward Colter Lasher added 11 points, hitting 3-of-6 from long distance, while senior guard Jourdan Stickler scored nine off the bench. Sophomore center Josh Ibarra paced HBU on the glass with five boards to go with six points.

Devota Abron scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures for TCU (2-0). Chauncey Collins and Vladimir Brodziansky scored 13 apiece, Malique Trent scored 12 and JD Miller had 11. Brodziansky also had six rebounds and four blocked shots, while Karviar Shepherd led the Horned Frogs with nine rebounds to go with nine points.

TCU shots 49.2 percent from the field, 6-for-18 from behind the arc, and 24-for-30 from the free-throw line, while HBU shot 44.7 percent, 4-for-13 from 3-point range, and 17-for-27 from the stripe. The Horned Frogs outrebounded the Huskies, 36-28

A Collins 3-pointer and three-point play helped TCU jumped out to an 8-2 lead. A layup by Odunsi got the Huskies within four, but the Frogs went on a 17-0 run over the next 7:40 to lead 25-6. Trent hit back-to-back threes to extend TCU's lead to 23 with 6:12 remaining, then another run of 11-0 pushed the margin to 32. Lasher buried a couple of threes over the final minute-plus as the Huskies trailed 44-19 at the break.

TCU shot 53.3 percent, including 4-for-9 from 3-point range, in the first half, while holding HBU to 24.0 percent, 2-for-10 from deep. The Frogs shot 8-for-10 from the line, the Huskies went 5-for-7.

Stetler scored the first four points of the second half, but Shepherd answered with a three. Lasher and Odunsi each drove in for layups as the Huskies cut the Frogs' lead to 20. After a pair of buckets by Miller and Abron, Ibarra got on the board with layups on consecutive possessions. A three by Williams and a pair of free throws by Collins put TCU back up by 25 with 8:57 to go in the game, but a pair of free throws by freshman guard Asa Cantwell, a layup by sophomore guard Trey Patterson and a fallaway jumper by sophomore forward Terry Harris got the Huskies within 19 with 6:21 left. HBU would be unable to get any closer the rest of the way.

The Huskies travel to face Illinois State Saturday at 6 p.m. in Normal, Illinois, before heading to Cancun, Mexico, to take on South Dakota State Tuesday and either Rider or Cleveland State Wednesday at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.
