HOUSTON – The HBU volleyball team will host Sam Houston State in the regular-season finale Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sharp Gym as both team battle for seeding at next weekend's Southland Conference Tournament. The Huskies will also honor its three seniors,
Megan McStravick,
Bailey Keith and
Haley Hoffman, on Senior Day.
HBU (14-16, 8-7 SLC) is currently sixth in the league, one game behind Northwestern State and a half-game up on Southeastern Louisiana. The Huskies are led by sophomore outside hitter
Jessica Wooten, who ranks fourth in the league with 3.80 kills per set and also adds 2.80 digs per set. McStravick averages 2.77 kills and 2.77 digs per set, and Keith puts up 2.45 kills per set. Junior middle blocker
Allison Doerpinghaus leads the Southland in blocks with 1.27 per set and is fourth with a .329 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter
Kayla Armer is second in the league with 10.68 assists per set, and Hoffman ranks seventh with 4.20 digs per set.
Sam Houston State (18-10, 11-4) is a game behind second-place Central Arkansas and one game up on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Deveney Wells-Gibson leads the Southland with 4.81 kills per set and is fourth in service aces, while Michelle Griffin leads the league with 10.96 assists per set. Claire Kilpatrick leads the Bearkats defensively, ranking sixth in the conference with 4.22 digs per set.
HBU and Sam Houston State will also face each other in football Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Husky Stadium, so admission to the volleyball match is free for any fans that show their ticket to the football game.
