HOUSTON – HBU junior middle blocker
Madeline Gaffney recorded 10 kills to help the Huskies to their third straight victory, a 3-0 sweep of Prairie View A&M Tuesday night at Sharp Gym.
Freshman outside hitters Jessica Wagner and
Jessica Wooten each recorded nine kills, while Wagner also added 11 digs for HBU (3-1). Freshman setter
Kayla Armer had 36 assists, while freshman libero
Haley Mueller had nine digs.
Magda Zietek had eight kills for the Panthers. Kelsey Espinosa had 11 assists, while Monecia Preston recorded seven digs.
The Huskies outhit the Panthers .253 to .020. HBU had a total of 47 digs, while Prairie View A&M had 30 digs. The Panthers outblocked the Huskies 8 blocks to 7.
The Huskies scored seven in a row to take a five point lead. However, the Panthers clawed back to cut the deficit to one at 14-13. The Huskies led at 20-18, then scored the last five points of the set, which included a pair of kills from Gaffney.
In the second set, the Huskies were down 4-5, then scored five straight points. HBU never trailed again and scored the last three points for a 25-17 decision.
HBU jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third set and never looked back. The Huskies led 18-13 before scoring the final seven points of the match.
The Huskies return to action at the FIU Classic Thursday and Friday in Miami, Fla.
