HOUSTON – Houston Baptist was unable to cash in on chances to score and visiting Campbell took advantage, as the Fighting Camels scored a late goal to defeat the Huskies, 1-0, Sunday afternoon from Sorrels Field.

The only scoring of the match came in the 80th minute when Ricki Gaez scored unassisted. There was a battle for a loose ball between Gaez and Husky goalkeeper Zach Harwerth. Gaez got to the ball first and floated the ball over Harwerth and into the open net.

HBU had several chances to score, but either the Camels' defense stepped up, or the Huskies were just unlucky. Gustavo Alvarado split the defenders and was on a breakaway against the Campbell keeper, but his shot went just wide. Kristopher Tyrpak was left all alone on a set piece, but his shot sailed high.

HBU outshot Campbell 17-13, but Campbell held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Tyrpak led HBU with three shots on goal and Mitchell Cardenas also had three shots on goal for Campbell.

Harwerth suffered the loss in goal for HBU, stopping a career-high seven shots. Ethan Hall improved his record to 1-0-1 after stopping seven shots.

HBU (1-1-0) will conclude its three-game home stand against Stetson on Sat., Sept. 1 at 7 pm.
