HOUSTON – Houston Baptist will take on crosstown rival Rice Saturday in non-conference basketball action at 7:05 p.m. at Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Huskies (3-3) are led by senior forward
Art Bernardi, who is averaging 16.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 51 percent from the field. Sophomore guard
Tyler Russell averages 11.7 points per game and leads the team with 15 assists. Senior guard
Marcus Davis adds 9.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, and freshman forward
Dauson Womack leads HBU with 5.7 rebounds per contest.
Tamir Jackson is leading Rice (1-5) with 16.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and is tied for the team lead with 12 assists. Julian DeBose is second on the team with 9.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Max Guercy adds 7.8 points and Austin Ramljak 7.0 points per game, including a team-high 14 3-pointers, for the Owls.
In its last game, HBU lost on the road to Eastern Illinois, 64-44, on Nov. 24. Russell had 11 points to pace the Huskies. Bernardi and freshman guard
Rob Lewis had eight points each, with Lewis adding four steals, and Davis led the Huskies on the boards with seven.
Rice has lost four-straight games, including a 55-47 decision to Drexel Nov. 25 in Anaheim, Calif. Jackson led the Owls with 20 points, while DeBose had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Rice leads the all-time series against HBU, 6-0, and won last year's meeting at Sharp Gym, 78-66.
The Huskies return home to host future Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State Dec. 8 at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
