HOUSTON – The hottest player in the conference, CSU Bakersfield's Gyasi Zardes, continued his torrid stretch as he recorded seven points in the Roadrunners' 4-1 victory over the Huskies Friday night at Sorrels Field.

Zardes entered the match with 11 goals and had set a new program record with four goals in a 6-2 win over Seattle last weekend. He recorded a natural hat trick and assisted on the fourth goal tonight.

Zardes scored his first goal in the 12th minute, as David Velasquez sent a cross pass that Zardes one-touched into the back of the net.

In the 21st minute, Zardes was fouled in the box and scored on the ensuing penalty kick, hitting the lower right part of the net.

Just two minutes later, Zardes struck again, as Jesus Sanchez sent a long pass up the field, finding Zardes all alone. He shot curled into the upper right part of the net.

CSU Bakersfield led the Huskies 3-0 at halftime. The shots were even in the first half at seven apiece, but the Roadrunners had a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Thilo Borgmann ended the shutout with an unassisted tally in the 52nd minute. The Roadrunner keeper, Eric Shannon, went to grab a bouncing ball, but it bounced off of his hands to Borgmann, who shot the ball into an empty net.

The goal seemed to bring new life to the Huskies, as they scored again mere minutes later, but the goal was called off due to the Huskies being offsides.

CSU Bakersfield increased its lead to 4-1 in the 72nd minute, as Zardes fed Joe Masumiya with a cross pass, and Masumiya banged the ball home.

HBU outshot CSU Bakersfield 14-13 in the match and had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Mark Gendi had two of the Huskies' four shots on goal, as Borgmann and Zach Pierce each had one.

Kevin Suarez started the match and allowed three goals on three shots, playing in 40:33. Zach Harwerth played the final 49:27 and allowed one goal while making two saves.

Zardes had three goals on eight shots attempted, but he scored on all of his shots on goal. Shannon earned the win in goal, making two saves while allowing one goal.

HBU (3-7-2, 1-3-2 MPSF) will host UNLV Sunday afternoon at 1 pm in the final home game of the season. Halftime of the match will feature Senior Day festivities for Francisco Diaz, Mateo Jimenez, and Leonel Munoz.
