ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Houston Baptist begins 2012 looking for an elusive road win in the first meeting against New Mexico in nearly 40 years Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 8:05 p.m. CST at The Pit.
The Huskies (5-8) are led by junior forwards
Art Bernardi (14.3 ppg, 5.0 rpg) and
Marcus Davis (11.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg). HBU also has a talented trio of freshman guards:
Tyler Russell is third on the team with 11.5 point per game, Ronald March averages 9.8 off the bench and
Marcel Smith averages 7.3 points per game and leads the team with 30 assists. Senior center
Joe Latas adds 9.5 points per game and leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.
New Mexico (12-2) enters the game on a 10-game winning streak and are led by Tony Snell's 13.6 points per game. Drew Gordon averages a double-double with 12.9 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest, while Kendall Williams adds 11.0 points per game.
The Lobos are 6-1 at home this season, while the Huskies are 0-6 on the road. New Mexico won the only previous meeting between the two schools in Albuquerque, 115-72, in 1973.
HBU will return home for back-to-back games, beginning with Eastern Illinois Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
