HOUSTON – Visiting Air Force scored four second-half goals en route to a 5-2 victory over Houston Baptist in both teams' regular season openers Saturday evening at Sorrels Field.
Daniel Boyer played all 90 minutes in goal, allowing five goals and making four saves.
Brian Klazura had a four point match, with a goal and two assists, while John Melcher and Kevin Durr each had a three-point match for Air Force, with a goal and an assist. Garrett Getschow and Zachary Modly had the other goals. Getschow and Melcher each had a match-high four shots.
Matt Underwood also went the distance in goal, allowing two goals and making one save.
The only scoring in the first half came just four minutes into the match, as Klazura scored, unassisted, shooting from long range and the shot ricocheting off the hands of Boyer.
In the second half, the Falcons took control of the match with two goals in a little under two minutes. Getschow scored in the 50th minute, assisted by Klazura, from a rebound off the post from Klazura's initial shot. Melcher made it 3-0 AFA in the 52nd minute, assisted by Klazura, as the two had a give-and-go, with Melcher sneaking the ball into the lower left corner.
Air Force made it 4-0 in the 70th minute, when Durr scored, assisted by Melcher, with Durr shooting the ball just under the cross bar.
HBU got on the board in the 81st minute, as the Huskies were fouled in the box and were awarded a penalty kick. Ojeda took it and shot it past Underwood.
Air Force answered with its fifth and final goal of the match five minutes later, when Modly scored, assisted by Durr.
The Huskies completed the scoring in the 89th minute, when Pierce scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Munoz.
HBU (0-1-0) will hit the road for the first time this season, competing in the WVU Nike Classic, hosted by West Virginia University, from Sept. 2-4. The Huskies play Old Dominion on Sept. 2 at 3 pm CST and Binghamton on Sept. 4 at 11 am CST.
